Sheriff's deputies release sketch of man who forced woman off bicycle

INVERNESS -- Citrus County sheriff's deputies have released a sketch of the man suspected of forcing a woman off her bicycle at gunpoint while she was riding on the Withlacoochee State Trail Friday. The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, said Lt. Joe Eckstein. He is believed to be between the ages of 35 and 40. According to the victim, the man was walking on the trail behind the Sportsman's Park Bowling Alley when he confronted her with a chrome-colored handgun and told her to get off the bike. The suspect tried to force the victim into the woods but let go when he saw another person approaching, authorities said. The man struck the victim in the face and ran into the woods. Deputies searched the area but did not find the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 726-4488 and ask for Detective John Plevell.

Chamber of Commerce names winners in Christmas parades

INVERNESS -- The following winners were announced recently by the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce for the Inverness and Crystal River Christmas parades. For the Inverness parade on Saturday, the winners were: Best Commercial -- Manatee Office Supply; Best Noncommercial -- Florida Department of Children and Family Services; Best Religious and Judges' Choice -- Hernando United Methodist Church; Best Marching Unit -- Cub Scout Pack 457; Best School Entry -- New Testament Christian School; and Special Mention for marching bands from Hernando Elementary, Inverness Middle and Citrus High schools. The winners for the Crystal River parade on Dec. 1 were: Best Commercial and Judges Choice -- Cynthia's Salon; Best Noncommercial -- Nature Coast Flag Football; Best School and Best Band -- Crystal River Middle School; Best Religious -- First Baptist Church of Crystal River; Best Marching Unit -- The Tennis Belles of Crystal River.
