Denham Oaks Elementary: Sertoma hearing screenings, Thursday. Pasco Elementary: Carols and Cocoa, Dec. 19 in the multipurpose room. Parents are invited to join their children in this festive event. Call the school and find out what time your child will be attending. Pine View Middle: School Play, 3 p.m. Friday at Land O'Lakes High. St. Anthony Catholic: Students are collecting non-perishable food items for needy families in east Pasco County. For information or to donate, call (352-588-3041. R.B. Stewart Middle: Golfers are needed for a fundraiser sponsored by the cheerleaders. Registration is 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with a shot gun start at 9:30 a.m. at Scotland Yards. Cost s $50 per person. BRIEFSA Scholastic Book Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Hugh Embry Branch Library, 14215 Fourth St., Dade City. Crafts for Kids, 2 p.m. Saturday at the New River Library Branch, 34043 State Rd. 54, Zephyrhills. Those wanting to make local contributions this holiday season might want to consider giving to the Pasco County Schools (ABC) Assist, Believe and Care Committees, which assist needy students and their families. At this time of year, those who qualify for aid are making out their wish lists for the holiday season. Those who are interested can adopt a child or family. Money donations are also welcome. For information or to donate, simply call the school of your choice and ask for the ABC coordinator. The Pasco County School's Head Start/School Readiness Program is accepting applications. Children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2001, and families must meet low income guidelines. Those wanting to apply must provide the following documentation: child's birth certificate, proof of family income (2000 1040, W-2, four weekly pay stubs, letter from employer, TANF verification or subsidized child care eligibility), child's Medicaid card (or proof of application) or other insurance, child's Social Security card. Yearbook sponsor is Ms. Tracy Tuman. Teresa Doolittle, a student at Stewart Middle School, auditioned and won a spot in the Florida All-State Seventh and Eighth Grade Honor Band. Emilia Antosiewicz of Mitchell High, Maika Nguyen of Gulf High and Michael Duncan from River Ridge High were named winners of the 2001 Turn Around Scholarship Award sponsored by the Pasco Pediatric Foundation. These students have beaten the odds by overcoming physical, educational, emotional and financial hardships. Students were also nominated by school staff members because of their unselfish contribution to their community and their peers. Barbara DeWitt has been named Teacher of the Year at James Irvin Education Center. Sharon Lonon was named School Related Personnel of the Year. Steven Blankenship, Adam Lewellen, Chris Mosley and Deric Pelletier won first place in the Red Ribbon Week door decorating contest.
