The span will need occasional adjustments until Treasure Island gets a new bridge in a few years, according to City Manager Chuck Coward.

TREASURE ISLAND -- The Causeway Bridge will be closed for emergency repairs from 11 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

Get used to it, says City Manager Chuck Coward.

"We've told the commissioners you can expect more of these," Coward said Tuesday. This kind of disruption will happen until the city gets a new bridge in a few years, but Coward emphasized that the causeway is safe.

Construction crews will tighten nose locks, which secure the bridge when it is closed and reduce vibrations.

City transportation director Hal Bruce said the work couldn't wait. The bridge has been shaking too much as cars and trucks cross.

In January, commuters can expect lane closures as the city repairs the road surface in several spots.

Said Coward: "It is getting to be a pain."
