Rookie shoots Sabres to win

BOSTON -- Rookie J.P. Dumont scored all three of Buffalo's goals and Dominik Hasek stopped 22 shots for his third shutout of the season to lead the Sabres to a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The Sabres won for the fourth time in five games and earned their first victory at Boston since Dec. 12, 1998.

FLYERS 2, PREDATORS 2: Bill Houlder scored midway through the third period as host Nashville erased two one-goal deficits.

CAPS 3, ISLANDERS 2: Chris Simon's third-period power-play goal helped visiting Washington extend its unbeaten streak against New York to 18 games.

Around the league

BLACKHAWKS: The team has given defenseman Steve McCarthy permission to attend the Canadian junior hockey team's selection camp starting Wednesday.

CAPITALS: Michael Jordan was unanimously approved as a partner in the group that owns the team.

LEAFS: One day after knee surgery, forward Steve Thomas started rehabilitation on his right knee. Coach Pat Quinn said the right wing will be out at least six weeks.

RANGERS: Petr Nedved was suspended for three games without pay for high-sticking Boston's Joe Thornton on Dec. 9.

SUIT PLANNED: Hockey's world governing body is threatening to sue if the league doesn't increase the $6-million annual payment it makes for luring players from Europe.

GRIEVANCE: The union filed a grievance with the league complaining that defenseman Stephane Quintal joined the Blackhawks from the Rangers in a trade, not a waiver claim, which would guarantee him another year under contract at $3-million.
