1 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- J.K. Rowling's beloved book becomes an impressive film, one that children and adults will share for generations.
2 Monsters, Inc. -- First toys, then bugs. Now Pixar Animation Studios reveals the secret lives of things that go bump in the closet. Wonderful vocals by Billy Crystal and John Goodman.
3 Vanilla Sky -- Unpreviewed but worth a look, if only to see what chemistry exists between Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz, and perhaps glean a clue about that weird title.
4 The Man Who Wasn't There -- Joel and Ethan Coen (Fargo; O Brother, Where Art Thou?) resurrect the stained morals of 1940s film noir with a quietly puzzling performance by Billy Bob Thornton.
5 Spy Game -- The inevitable teaming of golden boys Robert Redford and Brad Pitt works like a charm in this CIA thriller.
