The Sarasota Ballet of Florida, more than 100 area children and the Florida West Coast Symphony will present The Nutcracker, choreographed by Sarasota Ballet artistic director Robert de Warren. Performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 20-21, 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 22-23, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. $16-$47; preferred seating for opening night, $59. (941) 351-8000.

Stars of the Russian State Ice Ballet and the Florida Orchestra are featured in The Nutcracker on Ice, this year in the more intimate setting of Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Carol Morsani Hall, rather than the cavernous Ice Palace of last year. Promised are head-to-toe death spirals, lifts and spins -- all performed in elaborate costumes. Performances are 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa. $20-$38, half price for ages 12 and younger. (813) 229-7827 or toll free 1-800-955-1045; or www.tbpac.org.
