INTERIM BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS SITE: Homosassa Elementary School will house the Boys and Girls Clubs of Citrus County for the remainder of the school year. A search is under way for a permanent site, and the search committee welcomes suggestions from the community. The site must be convenient, secure and safe for children.

WORLD HERITAGE SEEKS LOCAL REP: World Heritage, a non-profit students exchange program, is seeking local volunteer representatives to provide foreign exchange students with local support. Representatives plan an annual student orientation, meet with local high schools, provide support counseling for participants, screen potential host families and meet monthly with exchange students, attend an annual training workshop and report to the regional coordinator. Local representatives spend about two to four hours a month with the exchange students. Time and expenses are reimbursed by the organization. For information, call (864) 963-8332 or (800) 785-9040.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION ESSAY CONTEST: Sons of the American Revolution Withlacoochee Chapter invites high school seniors in Citrus and Hernando counties to enter the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. The national winner will travel to Louisville, Ky., and receive $7,500. Second place receives $2,500; third place prize is $1,000. State-level prizes are $1,500 and a plaque, $600 and $300. At the chapter level the winner receives $100; second and third places receive $50 U.S. Savings Bonds. The topic is "The U.S. Constitution: Does it stand the test of time?" Length of the original essays must be 500 to 750 words. They will be judged for historical accuracy, clarity of thought, organization and proven topic, grammar, spelling and documentation. Deadline is Dec. 30. Contest rules and a source list can be obtained by sending a business-sized, self-addressed envelope to Kenneth Miller, 506 Palma Ceia Pointe, Inverness, FL 34450-4347. TEEN COUNCIL: Coastal Region Library is seeking youths ages 13 to 18 to serve on a teen council to assist the library in developing programs for teens. Members will be encouraged to express ideas for youth programs, materials for the library and the new library teen Web site. The council will meet at 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the Community Room. For information, call 795-3716.

STORY TIME: The Citrus County Library System is offering free story time programs for 3 year olds to 6 year olds, which may include finger plays, flannel board stories, book sharing, games, songs, dance or crafts. The programs are at 11 a.m. Tuesdays at Central Ridge Library; 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at Lakes Region Library; 10 a.m. Tuesdays at Homosassa Public Library; and 2 p.m. Saturdays at Floral City public Library. No registration required. Bedtime stories are at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Central Ridge Library and 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Lakes Region Library. Children 2 and older are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed animal to this reading time.

FREE CRYSTAL RIVER ART CONTEST: Arts and Kids, an organization dedicated to recognizing the work of young artists, is offering an art contest to Citrus County youths 17 and younger. There will be more than $38,000 in prizes and scholarships awarded in this year's national annual Art Competition. To enter, send one original artwork, any style, any medium, to Arts and Kids, Suite 101-2112, 33600 Crondall Lane, Owings Mills, MD 21117. TAE KWON DO: Citrus County Parks and Recreation is offering tae kwon do classes to children 6 years old and older. The first class is free. Cost is $10 for the first month, $20 for each additional month. Students learn self-control, confidence, self-defense, discipline and respect. Classes meet once a week as follows: Citrus County Auditorium from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays; Lecanto Primary School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays; Crystal River Middle School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays; Citrus Springs Middle School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays; Beverly Hills Community Building from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays; Homosassa Riverside Resort from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
