Officers arrest escapeeBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published December 14, 2000 Local marine officers arrested a Mississippi jail escapee Wednesday in the waters off Tierra Verde as he headed south in a stolen boat from Citrus County. John E. Darlington, 38, escaped two months ago from a jail in Hancock County, Miss. Two Pinellas County sheriff's marine deputies were on patrol when they stopped Darlington about 4 p.m. They thought the 32-foot Sea Ray motorboat looked similar to one reported stolen Dec. 2 from Pete's Pier Marina in Crystal River. Deputies say Darlington had changed the stolen $125,000 boat's name from Kiwi Clipper to Gone Again and was cruising to Miami to sell it. Darlington was charged with grand theft and was taken to the Pinellas County Jail. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
