Sickles High will host 8-team soccer tourney

CITRUS PARK -- Sickles will host an eight-team Winter Soccer Tournament today and Saturday at Ed Radice Park, 10900 S Mobley Road.

Boys and girls teams from Sickles, Alonso, Durant and East Lake in Pinellas County will play.

Sickles' girls finished its first three weeks of play undefeated at 7-0 and is favored to win.

On the boys side, Sickles and Durant are both 4-3 with another week to play before the tournament, but East Lake is capable of taking it all.

At 6:30 tonight, both the girls and boys teams from Sickles will meet East Lake. Both Durant teams face Alonso at 8:30 p.m.

Consolation matches begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday; the championships are scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

"We expect a pair of good matches for everybody playing," Sickles girls coach George Arroyo said. "We hope to have a good tournament."

Admission is $3 per person per day.
