Police reportsBy Times staff reports© St. Petersburg Times published December 14, 2001 Woman accused of forging ex-husband's signatureNEW PORT RICHEY -- A Hudson woman was arrested Wednesday after deputies said she forged her ex-husband's signature on a document that gave her rights to a piece of property. Freida Gail Hedglin, 43, of 4325 Sea Gull Drive, faces a charge of uttering a forged instrument, deputies said. On Nov. 2 about 1:30 p.m., she went to the Pasco Clerk of Courts Office in New Port Richey and forged her ex-husband's signature on a document that gave her their Sea Gull Drive house, which is assessed at nearly $250,000, deputies said. Hedglin posted $5,000 bail and was released Wednesday from the county jail in Land O'Lakes. Crash victim dies despite water rescue effortA Holiday man who was injured in a crash last month died 12 days later, despite accident-scene efforts of a Pasco County sheriff's deputy to save him. Michael Psilakis of Holiday was 48. On Nov. 17 he was behind the wheel of an Isuzu Rodeo and turned from a driveway onto Moog Road and into the path of an oncoming car, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. The collision tossed Psilakis' sport utility vehicle into a pond. It sank in 4 feet of water, about 45 feet from shore, according to a deputy's report. Psilakis was unconscious and trapped inside. Three teenagers, two men and a Pasco County sheriff's deputy jumped into the pond, the deputy's report states. The driver's door was jammed shut, so off-duty Deputy Ken Jackson pulled Psilakis through the rear passenger door. Psilakis regained consciousness and said he couldn't feel his arms or legs. Fearing further injury to Psilakis, Deputy Jackson stopped pulling him to shore and held him above water until fire rescue workers arrived with a backboard. Psilakis was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he died on Nov. 29. Woman accused of scuffle with teen faces chargesNEW PORT RICHEY -- A woman faces child abuse charges after deputies said she fought with a 16-year-old girl who was trying to keep her from going to a bar. Cheryl Ann Mekoleske, 43, who said she works in elderly care at Sullivan House Assisted Living Facility in Hudson, got into the fight about 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to deputy reports. The reports state that Mekoleske was drunk and grabbed the girl by the hair and neck when the girl tried to stop her from leaving the New Port Richey house. Mekoleske was being held Thursday night at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $2,000 bail. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
