This weekBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published December 14, 2001 COMING UP TODAY: The Centennial Opera Group will view videos of three short operas by Giacomo Puccini, known as Il Trittico, at 12:30 p.m. today at the Centennial Library, 5740 Moog Road, Holiday. The first, Il Tabarro (The Cloak), is a melodramatic tragedy of jealousy run amok. The second, Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica) is a study of perceived sin and atonement in a 17th century Italian convent. The third is Gianni Schicchi, a comic treatment of an episode from Dante's Inferno, which has Schicchi's extended family skipping the mourning of his death to get on with fighting over his estate. Admission is free. TODAY-DEC. 21: The West Pasco Art Guild's holiday gift gallery will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The gallery is at 6206 Jefferson St., New Port Richey. The award-winning group has more than 100 male voices. SATURDAY-DEC. 23: The Angelus home for developmentally disabled children and adults will present Christmas Pageant at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and on Dec. 22 and 23 at the center, 12413 Hudson Ave., Hudson. The 30-minute show about the Christmas story features the Angelus Choir and other community choirs. The show is followed by refreshments at the activity center. Admission is free. SATURDAY: Eight artists will participate in the annual Holiday Open House at San Antonio Pottery, 11903 Curley Road (south of State Road 52), San Antonio, at 7 p.m. Items for viewing and sale include lifelike Santas by Ann Hubbard, watercolors by Karen Phillips, handmade soaps and lotions by Brenda Morel, metal folk art angels by Diane Riggleman, wrought iron work by Lewis Riggleman, photographs by Bill Sargent, cloisonne jewelry by Sharon Scalise and pottery by Jack Boyle. Musicians Frances Pisacane, Jasmine Hart and Company will play classical and Celtic music on violin, guitar and flute. SUNDAY: The Longleaf community will hold a holiday festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the community off State Road 54 east of Little Road. Jazz player Allon Sams will play at 12:30 p.m., followed by singers Ted and Jules and the Gospel Warriors. Santa arrives at 1:30 p.m. There will be a crafts tent for kids. QUICK TRIPSTODAY-DEC. 22: Weeki Wachee Springs will present Winter Waterland Extravaganza from 6 to 10 p.m. today, Saturday and Dec. 21 and 22 at the park. The acts include Winter Waterland Mermaid Show, Santa's Water Sleigh, The Little Dog Who Saved Christmas animal show,Holiday Magic show and Santa's Fun Zone. The amphitheater will feature Sounds of Christmas, with several music groups. Admission is $7.05 for adults, 46.95 for ages 3-10. TODAY-SUNDAY: The musical comedy Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical, continues at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. SATURDAY: The annual Tarpon Springs Christmas Parade will be presented in downtown Tarpon Springs at 10 a.m. The parade ends at Craig Park, where kids can visit with Santa and get a free bag of candy from the Tarpon Springs Recreation Department. LOOK AHEADDEC. 22: Bluesman Hubert Sumlin will play at Bourbon Street Concert Club, 4331 U.S. 19, New Port Richey. Opening act Sean Chambers will perform at 9:30 p.m., followed by Sumlin.
