By Times staff reports County Commissioner Batchelor hospitalized with heart problemCounty Commissioner Roger Batchelor was treated for heart problems Friday at a Gainesville hospital. Batchelor was in good condition Friday evening following a procedure in the cardiac catheterization lab at Shands at the University of Florida, communications coordinator Ralph Ives said. A nurse said Batchelor was transferred to the Gainesville hospital early Friday morning from Shands Lake Shore, a Lake City hospital about 50 miles northeast of Batchelor's hunting cabin in Cook's Hammock. The cabin is in Lafayette County, about 100 miles north of Crystal River. Batchelor, who will turn 64 on Dec. 26, has been on the County Commission since 1996. County Health Department offers flu shots WednesdayThe county Health Department will offer flu shots from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the department, 3700 W Sovereign Path, Lecanto. A flu vaccine is recommended for anyone 50 years or older, anyone with chronic cardiovascular diseases, chronic lung disease, diabetes, renal dysfunction, anemia and other blood disorders, immunosuppressive conditions, and people who can transmit influenza to those at high risk. The cost of the vaccine is $10. Medicare, Part B will cover the cost of this medication. Bring a copy of your Medicare card with you. If you have HMO coverage, you need to receive vaccines from your health care provider or pay for the vaccines upon receipt.
