Commission looking for judge applicants

TAMPA -- The Judicial Nominating Commission wants lawyers to apply for an opening on the Circuit Court bench in Hillsborough County.

Applicants must live in Hillsborough, be registered voters and a member of the Florida Bar for the past five years.

To apply, lawyers must fill out an application, make nine copies, and deliver the papers to Jeanne Tate, chairwoman of the nominating commission, by Jan. 11 at 5 p.m.

Nine people arrested in drug investigation

PLANT CITY -- Authorities arrested nine people and were searching for seven others Friday as they concluded a two-year investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine.

The 16 are accused of conspiring to distribute and possess more than two ounces of methamphetamine or a mixture containing the drug. If convicted, the accused could get life in prison.

Plant City police, the FBI, U.S. Marshals, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Collier, Hillsborough and Polk County Sheriff's offices were involved in the investigation.
