SERVICES AND PROGRAMS: Regular Sunday worship begins at 7:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. Sunday school starts at 9 a.m. Allen Temple hosts Black Heritage Weekend with a variety of activities, including oratorical and basketball competitions. The Male Bible Warriors meet to study the word of God. Men's Bible class discusses the holy book at noon Saturdays.
HISTORY: Allen Temple was chartered in 1891 in Ybor City on Seventh Avenue. The church moved to Scott and Governor streets in the early 1900s. The present building was completed in 1992.
LEADERSHIP: The Rev. Harry L. Dawkins has pastored for the past 35 years in African Methodist Episcopal churches throughout Florida. He preached in St. Petersburg for nine years before being recently assigned to Allen Temple. Dawkins was ordained in 1968 at the West Florida Conference in Panama City. He has a master's degree in divinity from an interdenominational theological seminary in Atlanta. He received his bachelor's degree in sociology. Dawkins has been married for 20 years to his wife, Clattis, and they have three children.
