    Gallery celebrating 300 years of pianos

    CLEARWATER -- During December, the Music Gallery, 5990 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, will have one of Steinway & Sons' Tricentennial artcase pianos. The visit of the piano commemorates the 300th anniversary of the invention of the piano.

    The Tricentennial represents the first time a Steinway limited-edition piano has been created jointly at company factories in New York and Hamburg, Germany. Just 300 of these handmade pianos will be produced.

    From now and through Dec. 31, pianists, teachers and students can make appointments to see and play the piano. To sign up for either or for information, call the Music Gallery, 530-3304.

    Dolphin adorns Christmas ornaments

    CLEARWATER -- The Clearwater Arts! Foundation has chosen Sunset Sam, the bottle-nosed dolphin that lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, as the model for its Christmas ornament.

    Designed by local artist Ginger Meidel, the pewter ornament also can be used as a medallion, necklace, curio or key chain. Cost is $10 and includes tax. Limited to 500 copies, the collectible ornament will be on sale at the Marine Aquarium, the economic development office in Clearwater City Hall, Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, Clearwater Marina visitor center on Clearwater Beach, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Harborview Center, Clearwater Neighborhood Housing and the Clearwater Public main library and Countryside branches.     Find out how to dive during YMCA clinic

    CLEARWATER -- The YMCA of Clearwater, 1005 S Highland Ave., will hold a special Learn to Dive clinic from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Cost: $20 for Y members, $40 for non-members. Register at the member service desk. For information, call 461-9622.

    Bocce Ball League seeking players

    CLEARWATER -- There are only a few more openings on six bocce ball teams for the winter Bocce Ball League. Games will be played on Sunday mornings at the Italian American Club of Clearwater, 200 McMullen-Booth Road. For information, call Gino Caldarelli, league organizer, at 773-0280.

    DivorceCare schedules support group meetings

    CLEARWATER -- DivorceCare seminars and support group meetings are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Clearwater First Church of the Nazarene, 1875 Nursery Road, Clearwater. Each session features a videotape, followed by a support group meeting. Topics to be covered include facing anger, depression, loneliness, financial survival, child care, new relationships and more.     Program puts pets, seniors together

    The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Pinellas County, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo, matches pets with senior citizens in the Pets for People program. Seniors ages 60 and older can take home a specially matched pet and the adoption fee and the first veterinarian visit are covered. For more information, call 586-3591.

    Potential cadets can learn of life at West Point

    The West Point Parents Club of the Gulf Coast of Florida has scheduled a holiday reception for prospective West Point cadets at 10 a.m. Dec. 30 at the Radisson Sabal Park, 10221 Princess Palm Ave., Tampa. College and high school students, JROTC members and their parents are invited to attend the informal meeting to learn more about West Point and to meet with cadets who will be home for the holidays. The discussion will cover the application process, requirements and life at the academy.

    Gift basket sales to help animals

    The Humane Society of North Pinellas is selling gift baskets at the shelter for cats and dogs filled with treats, toys and other specialty items. Baskets for cats are $6 and baskets for dogs are $8, with all proceeds to go toward housing, medical care and other services for the animals at the shelter. Baskets may be picked up during business hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call (727) 797-7722.
