    Hit-and-run accident kills St. Petersburg man

    ST. PETERSBURG -- A 55-year-old pedestrian died after suffering head injuries in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday.

    Gene Parcekartzuk was crossing 34th Street N at Dartmouth Avenue about 1 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle heading north, according to St. Petersburg police. Few details were available.

    Parcekartzuk, who lived at a motel near the site of the accident, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he died about 8:30 p.m.

    The investigation was continuing, and detectives were interviewing witnesses.
