Truck, car crash kills Pinellas Park woman
By CHRIS TISCH LARGO -- An 89-year-old Pinellas Park woman died after a two-vehicle collision at Highland Avenue and Rosery Road in Largo on Wednesday afternoon. Vivian Theresa Appel was driving a silver 1990 Chevrolet west on Rosery Road about 12:45 p.m. when she collided with an Isuzu Ryder rental truck that was northbound on Highland Avenue, police said. Rescuers had to cut Appel, 9381 U.S. 19 N., out of her car. They took her by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:26 p.m. The driver of the truck, Christian Mohrfeld, 57, of 5251 Dartmouth Ave. was taken to Largo Medical Center for evaluation. Investigators were interviewing him at the hospital Wednesday afternoon, police spokesman Mac McMullen said. The rental truck that Mohrfeld was driving tipped onto its side after the impact. Police said one of the drivers ran a red light but did not say Wednesday which driver it was. The investigation remained open Wednesday evening. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
