Free winter fun camp starts Friday The Pasco County Parks and Recreational Department is sponsoring a free winter fun camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Tuesday and through Dec. 29 and Jan. 2-5. The camp, for kids ages 6-12, will be held at Odessa Park, 1627 Chesapeake Drive in Odessa. the event will include arts and crafts, games and other activities. For information, call (814) 926-1141.

New Tampa/University/Lutz

MOSI offers chess/science camp

The Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E Fowler Ave., is sponsoring a Holiday Chess/Science Camp for children in grades two through eight on Wednesday through Dec. 29. Children of all skill levels can combine chess fun with science labs. Trophies and prizes will be awarded. Snacks will be provided. Cost is $75 for MOSI members, $100 for non-members. Osteoporosis screening offered

The University Community Hospital Osteoporosis Center is offering a screening from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday to test for the risk for osteoporosis. The test is an ultrasound scan of your heel to test bone density; results will be available in five minutes. Health care professionals will be on hand for counseling and to answer questions. Cost is $10. The center is at UCH Health Park, 3102 E 138th Ave. For information, call (813) 979-7929.

Posters exhibit ends Saturday

The exhibit "French Poster Art" on display at the Henry B. Plant Museum at the University of Tampa, 401 W Kennedy Blvd., will end Saturday. The collection of original posters, courtesy of Michael Murphy Gallery, features Victorian and Edwardian fashions. Admission is free to museum members, $5 for non-members. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. For information, call (813) 253-6232.

Volunteer literacy tutors sought

Volunteer literacy tutors are being sought by the Hillsborough Literacy Council to assist in teaching adults to read. A required one-day training class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 13 at the John F. Germany Library, 900 N Ashley Drive. The deadline for registration is Jan. 6; reservations are required. In addition to completing the class, tutors are required to devote several hours a week to tutoring. Support and materials are provided. The primary goal of HLC is to locate and teach functionally and marginally illiterate people, older than 18, to read and write. For information or to register, call (813) 273-3650.

Temple Terrace

Chamber plans Business Expo

The Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce will hosts its annual Business Expo at the Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference Center, 11606 McKinley Drive. Businesses and vendors are being sought to participate in the expo scheduled for 3:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 27. Tables may be purchased for $125, available on first-come, first-served basis. The event will feature displays by businesses in Temple Terrace and the surrounding area. There will be free information on each business, free samples, food vendors and more. Tickets are free but must be obtained from the chamber before the day of the event. For information or to reserve a table, call (813) 989-7004.
