Elvira's boys are back
The big news for those who haven't seen the Oak Ridge Boys in a while? William Lee Golden, the burly Boy with the long Santa-style beard, is back in the vocal act. The Oak Ridge Boys, for two decades a staple of the country charts, gave Golden the boot in 1987 for, well, looking too much like a Mountain Man, but he's back in the saddle, singing baritone on the Boys' gospel-inflected country, a sound that has tiptoed over into the pop charts with hits such as Elvira and Bobbie Sue.
Golden's return in 1995 means all that giddy up, a oom papa oom papa mow mow business on Elvira should sound just perfect again with his baritone blended with Richard Sterban's bass vocal.
The Oak Ridge Boys perform at 8 tonight at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Tickets are $28.75-$32.75. (727) 791-7400. The band also plays at 8 p.m. Friday at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. (941) 953-3368. Tickets are $27-$38.
