By Times staff Gumbi Ortiz and the Latino ProjektGumbi Ortiz is a world renowned Afro-Cuban drummer who performs Cuban street music with high-energy improvisation. The band features Jeremy Douglas on piano, Frank Martinez on drums, Kenny Walker on bass, Freddie Montes on vocals and Gumbi Ortiz on congas. Ortiz has played with Al DiMeola for years, along with Miles Davis and Gato Barbieri. The show is at 8 tonight at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, near Nebraska Avenue. The Disciples of Vision of the First Baptist Church of College Hill present A Song of Mary. This play also includes special guest Mimes in Motion with Rodney Norton from the Bible Based Church in Temple Terrace and the Youth Sign Dancers with Jack Smalley from the Bible Based Church in Carrollwood. Christmas carols and candlelight serviceGet into the holiday spirit with a candlelight service and Christmas carols. The Tims Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 Sunset Road in Lutz, is featuring a service of lessons and Christmas carols at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday. The church will also celebrate Christmas Eve with several services on Monday. The children will present a play, Why the Chimes Ring at 4:30 p.m. The evening candelight service is at 7:30 p.m. and includes Communion along with special music provided by the organ, violin and cello. The Celebration Choir will complete the last service at 10 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the congregation for one or all of the services.
