Crash hurts twoBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published December 22, 2000 A man was critically injured in a Thursday afternoon traffic crash on E Hillsborough Avenue and N 37th Street. Tampa police said the driver and passenger in a Chevy Blazer were punching each other in the face when the driver lost control of the truck and careened into a utility pole, shearing it in two. The driver, 32-year-old James Patrick McClain, got out of the car and walked away, bleeding from the head. Police later caught up with him. His passenger, whose name was unavailable, had to be cut out of the truck and was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. The downed power lines closed westbound traffic on Hillsborough for four hours. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
