Land O'Lakes gets two wins

© St. Petersburg Times, published December 22, 2000

TAMPA -- Maybe it was their new gold uniforms.

Or the competition, which included a defending state champion. Or perhaps the Gators just disdained losing for the first time.

Whatever the reason, Land O'Lakes rebounded from an opening-round loss in the Puma International with two wins Thursday.

The Gators (14-1-1) advanced to today's consolation final at 10 a.m. at South Florida against the winner of the late Lakeland Jenkins/Winter Park game.

Against Jacksonville Bolles on Thursday morning, the Gators fired 18 shots in the first half, scoring the only goals in a 2-0 win at Sam Pasco Park.

Land O'Lakes then traveled to Tampa to beat defending Class 3A champion Flagler Palm Coast 5-3 behind Jason Lipinski's hat trick.

Against Bolles, Kyle Crawford took an outlet pass from keeper Greg Kline in the 11th minute and lofted a shot over Rohit Agarwal for his 13th goal.

Land O'Lakes struck again in the 37th minute as Lipinski floated the ball to Christian Potts, who headed the ball by Agarwal.

Against Palm Coast (12-2), Justin Read's 10-foot blast in the 10th minute started the scoring.

Alberto Lopez also scored against the Bulldogs.
