INVERNESS -- Officials had hoped to have the Aeromed 3 medical evacuation helicopter, or medevac, up and running by the end of this year, but now say it will not be ready until the middle of January.
John Dunn, spokesman for Tampa General Hospital, said the process of finding a helicopter, securing a site at the Inverness Airport and handling other startup tasks took slightly longer than officials had expected. Dunn said he hopes to have Aeromed 3 running by the week of Jan. 15, providing a faster way for Citrus patients to get to trauma centers for advanced medical care.
