2 marks fall as Colorado routs No. 16 UF

BOULDER, Colo. -- Britt Hartshorn had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Mandy Nightingale added 21 points as Colorado beat No. 16 Florida 98-62 on Friday night.

Colorado shot 43-for-49 from the free-throw line, setting a school record for attempts and shots converted.

Florida shot 8-for-14 from the line and scored 21 fewer points than its season average. The loss was Florida's worst since a 90-50 rout by Purdue on Nov. 26, 1999. Brandi McCain led Florida with 19.

Vanessa Hayden's basket with 8:20 left in the first half gave Florida a 21-20 lead, its last of the game. Colorado answered with a 9-0 run, including Caroline Koechlin's three-point play on a layup and a free throw, and two free throws by Nightingale on Florida coach Carol Ross' technical foul. Naomi Mobley's follow with 2:52 left in the half pulled Florida within 31-25, but Colorado closed the half with an 11-0 run.

"Early in the game we had easy opportunities for points, but we didn't finish those shots," Ross said. "It was very deflating for us and that set the tone for the game."

NO. 1 UCONN 107, WAKE FOREST 52: Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma got a game ball during pregame festivities to commemorate his 400th win earned earlier this month. Wake Forest would rather forget his 401st.

Svetlana Abrosimova scored 16 points, and Tamika Williams had four of UConn's 19 steals.

The Huskies forced the visitors into 16 first-half turnovers. UConn didn't commit a turnover in the first nine minutes.

NO. 2 TENNESSEE 67, NO. 15 TEXAS 59: Tamika Catchings had 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead Tennessee past host Texas. Catchings scored 11 of her team's final 17. Gwen Jackson added 18 points for the Vols. The loss snapped Texas' winning streak at nine.

NO. 11 TEXAS TECH 85, USC 59: Katrissa O'Neal and Plenette Pierson each scored 20 for host Texas Tech. Amber Tarr and Jia Perkins each added 15. Aisha Hollans led USC with 17.

NO. 21 XAVIER 84, AKRON 57: Nicole Levandusky set a school record with 11 steals and added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for host Xavier. Kate Kreager had 16 points and 11 assists to help give coach Melanie Balcomb her 100th victory at Xavier.

FAIRFIELD 67, MIAMI 55: Alicia Hartlaub led Miami with 12 points, and Sheila James added 11 points.
