With shopping season in full swing, dive shops are geared up for that special Christmas gift.

If you are not a diver and you are looking for dive gear for a gift, there are several things to keep in mind. Ask divers for input, they will steer you in the right direction. Look for a shop that has a track record, selection, and, of course, knowledge.

Being a non-diver in a diver's world can be confusing. Luckily there is a large population of divers in this area. They support the local shops. This lets the shop owner know what sells best in this area. Dive gear can be diverse. For instance regulators used for ice diving would be an added expense for our warm water.

Don't be afraid to tell the sales person that you are not a diver and just looking for your diver friend. He or she will help you find something appropriate, then try to sign you up for a dive class. If you are interested in diving but not sure if you would like it, ask if the shop offers a "scuba experience." This enables you to try scuba diving without signing up for a full class.
