The week in review
By Times staff writer VOTE DELAYED: The County Commission delayed by at least 30 days consideration of a $4.2-million deal to buy a new Motorola communications system for the county's law enforcement, fire and ambulance crews. Commissioners, led by chairman Jim Fowler, sought a monthlong delay because they wanted staff to make certain the county's new equipment would fit with any state or national plan for emergency preparedness. CHARGES ADDED: An Inverness man arrested last month for keeping pictures in his computer of children having sex was slapped with 41 new charges after detectives more thoroughly investigated the contents of the hard drive. The suspect is John Bernard Brudnock, 58, of 7751 E Allen Drive. WATER PROBLEMS: A water main break near U.S. 41 left about 44 homes and businesses with low water pressure and prompted the city to issue a warning about possible contamination on Tuesday. The break was discovered by an employee at Al's Italian Restaurant about 11 p.m. Monday and a work crew spent the next five hours making a repair. Connections from Eden Drive south to the city line were affected. UNIFIED CHAMBER: Members of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and the Homosassa Springs Area Chamber of Commerce agreed to merge their organizations, creating a unified voice for the local business community. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
