CLEARWATER -- Boca Ciega used strong rebounding and a stingy defense Saturday to upset Jacksonville Wolfson 58-39 and capture the Time Warner Invitational title.

Tournament MVP Marquel Brooks led the Pirates with 28 points.

Wolfson, the state's fourth-ranked team in Class 5A, led 10-8 after a slow first quarter. In the second quarter, however, the Pirates started to dominate on the boards, led by the Brooks brothers, Marquel and Willie.

The rebounding spurred a 15-2 Boca Ciega run that led to a 25-19 halftime lead.

Marquel Brooks had 14 points at the break.

The Pirates used another spurt, this time an 11-0 one in the third quarter, to go up 36-23 with 3 minutes left in the quarter.

The Wolfpack were constantly stymied by the Bogie defense as the Pirates built a 43-27 lead by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The final quarter seemed to be played to see if Marquel Brooks could hit the 30-point mark.

The Pirates played keep-away and ran time off the clock as they continued to dominate the boards. At one time, the Pirates led by as many as 22.

James Grimball led Wolfson with 11 points and all-tournament selection Will Holloman added eight.

In addition to the Brooks brothers, Bogie was led by all-tournament team member Emmanuel Elamin, who scored eight points.

The Pirates improved to 8-2 and the Wolfpack fell to 11-2.
