Hillsborough Sheriff's officials said a 1994 Honda driven by John Kulas, 31, was heading eastbound on Lake Ellen Drive when it left the road and struck a tree about 2:30 a.m. Gerry Vaccaria, of 12195 Armenia Gable Circle, died at the scene. Authorities said he was in the front passenger seat and was not wearing a safety belt. Kulas and a second passenger, Lynette Harris, 27, were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. They were in stable condition Monday night. Officials said they suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, but no charges have been filed. Man in critical condition after being struck by carWIMAUMA -- A 29-year-old man was in critical condition Monday night as authorities searched for another man they say intentionally struck him with a car. Delmar Morales Lopez, of 610 Railroad St., was flown to Tampa General Hospital after a fight at the Mis Amigos trailer park around 5:30 p.m. Hillsborough sheriff's deputies said the incident began when a white van pulled into the trailer park and incited the residents. Deputies said Lopez exchanged words with the occupants of the van. The vehicle drove away, but moments later, a Blue Mercury Marquis entered the trailer park. More words were exchanged, then Lopez was run down. If found, the driver could face attempted murder charges with a vehicle, deputies said.
