Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Benjamin D. Barger, son of Janis A. and James Barger of St. Petersburg, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Barger is a 1999 graduate of Lakewood High School.

Marine Corps Pfc. Luigi Fioravanti, son of Tina and Roberto Fioravanti of Kenneth City, received a letter of appreciation while assigned with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

He was recognized for his superior performance, dedication and initiative.

A 1999 graduate of Pinellas Park High School, Fioravanti joined the Marine Corps in August

Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Donald A. Quinn, a 1990 graduate of Gibbs High School, has re-enlisted while serving with Marine Security Guard Detachment, American Embassy Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Russell W. Lipske Jr., son of Claire A. Mobray of St. Petersburg and Russell W. Lipske Sr. of Homosassa, retired from active duty after 24 years of service.

Lipske most recently served at Coast Guard Aviation Training Center, Mobile, Ala.

A 1974 graduate of Northeast High School, he joined the Coast Guard in November 1975.
