Holidays hamper inquiry
By JENNIFER FARRELL, Times Staff Writer SPRING HILL -- Detectives investigating the mysterious killing of a night watchman whose body was found Sunday night at D.A.B. Constructors' Spring Hill plant are having trouble tracking down people to question in the case. "Many have gone out of town for the Christmas holiday," Lt. Joe Paez, spokesman for the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, said Wednesday. "It's hampering us somewhat." Paez said detectives have traveled as far as Tampa seeking information on the death of Richard Leo March, 60, of Floral City. A co-worker found March's body in the middle of the construction yard at 7:26 p.m., shortly after March had arrived for work. Investigators have declined to say how March was killed or to release a possible motive. Authorities have said March might have encountered trespassers. Because the homicide took place in the center of the D.A.B. compound, 3300 Northeast Parkway, the Sheriff's Office was treating the entire site as a crime scene, Paez said. He said several footprints and other pieces of evidence were found. March lived in a rural neighborhood near the Hernando and Citrus county line in a mobile home off a gravel road. Neighbors described him as very private and quiet. -- Information from Times files was used in this report. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
