Public hearing on judge's conduct is today in Tampa

TAMPA -- A staff attorney for the state House Judicial Oversight Committee pored over records Wednesday to prepare for today's public hearing into the conduct of Hillsborough Circuit Judge Robert Bonanno.

The public may watch starting at 9 a.m. in the judges' conference room, No. 214G, at the state courthouse in downtown Tampa.

    Expect a battle.

"This is a showdown at the O.K. Corral," Bonanno's attorney, Ralph Fernandez, said last week.

The committee plans to depose Bonanno, his judicial assistant and others this morning. It is considering impeaching Bonanno for a number of actions, including statements he gave to investigators concerning his entry into another judge's chambers after hours.
