Officer at store arrests man carrying knife

ZEPHYRHILLS -- Police were right on the spot Thursday when a man brandishing a knife was reported at the Townview Square Shopping Center.

According to Zephyrhills police Capt. Richard Scudder, a man later identified as Alvin W. Levine, 59, of 4903 Rollins St. had been inside the Cleamone Liquor Store on Wednesday and was fondling himself in front of a clerk when he was ordered to leave the store.

On Thursday, police said, Levine returned about noon and pulled out a 10-inch steak knife, brandished it at clerk Natahalie Fraifer, 19, and ordered her to follow him to the back of the store.

Fraifer bolted from the store and ran into the parking lot, where she found Zephyrhills police Officer Jason Shipley patrolling the lot.

Shipley spotted Levine leaving the store and ordered him to drop the knife he was hiding in a paper bag. Levine complied, police reported.

"You know how they always say, "How come there's never a cop when you need one?' " Scudder said. "In this case, they were in the right place at the right time."

According to police reports, Levine claimed he only wanted someone to sharpen his knife.

Levine was charged with aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon. He remained in the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes on Friday in lieu of $11,000 bail.
