TAMPA -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a 13-year-old Tuesday and charged him with killing a 61-year-old man who had been walking down the street with his wife.

Officials said Aaron T. Ashley, of 2032 Garden Lane, was charged with first-degree murder. He admitted Tuesday to participating in the killing and robbing of Donald Richard Rogers, of 1817 Winn Terr.

Rogers was shot after telling a man with a pistol that he had no money.

Deputies said the man with the pistol was Mario Preston, 26. Preston is wanted on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder.

"Preston shot the individual in cold blood," sheriff's Maj. Gary Terry said. He had not been arrested Tuesday night, and Terry said deputies believe "he is a very dangerous person" and may be hiding in the neighborhood where the shooting took place, near the University of South Florida.

While Preston pulled the trigger, deputies said Ashley assisted in the killing and helped conceal it afterward.

As he was led to a sheriff deputy's cruiser Tuesday night, Ashley said, "I didn't shoot this man."

Rogers was killed Sunday night about 7:30 as he walked with his wife, Martha Rogers, to their son's apartment on N 19th Street a few blocks away from their apartment.

An employee of a plumbing company, and the father of two grown children, Rogers was planning to retire in a few months.
