CLEARWATER -- Two 18-year-olds were charged with using a hammer to steal a $49 pair of jeans Tuesday.

Clearwater Detective Clarence Calloway said the pair was arrested after MKS Fashions at 1841 N Highland Ave. was robbed. Employee Kunja Satterlee, 53, was punched and hit with a hammer during the 11 a.m. holdup. She was treated at Mease Hospital-Dunedin and released.

Gordon A. Owusu, of 600 Starkey Road in Largo, and Shawn Jones, of 1313 Sandy Lane in Clearwater, were arrested.

Owusu was charged with aggravated battery, armed robbery and driving without a valid license. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $120,500 bail. Charged with armed robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, Jones was being held on $100,500 bail.

Calloway said two robbers went into the store, pretended to look for some clothing and attacked Satterlee. After she was punched and knocked to the floor, she was hit in the back of the head with a hammer.

Stealing a pair of Lugz brand jeans, the robbers left in a car Calloway said was driven by Owusu. A description of the car was radioed to officers on patrol, and it was stopped at Highland Avenue and Palmetto Street.
