Tortured past,
uncertain future
MAKESHIFT PLAYTHINGS: Arlinda Petrovska, 6, and his sister Josanica, 4, take turns playing on a rope swing that hangs from their tent door at Stenkovic refugee camp in Macedonia. The children at the camp play games with sticks and draw in the mud or sing songs they remember from Kosovo, but the swing is the only plaything they have. The swings, which hang from many tent doors in the camp, are made with a single rope and whatever cushion or blanket can be found.
