

Deadly Combination: Ford, Firestone and Florida

Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. recalled 14.4-million tires last August after the federal government began investigating whether faulty Wilderness AT and ATX tires played a role in hundreds of injuries and deaths throughout the United States. The tires were found on trucks and sport utility vehicles, including the popular Ford Explorer. Firestone traces the faulty tires primarily to its Decatur, Ill., plant. But auto safety advocates and scientists say the faulty tires were made across North America and include models that Firestone has not recalled.
