Looking for a man who listens: Sandrine Bonnaire stars as Anna in Intimate Strangers.
Film review
Feelings in fetters
In Intimate Strangers, words touch, not bodies, as characters imprisoned by their own emotional walls seek to make connections beyond themselves.

Also opening: The busy signal as plot
Screenwriter Larry Cohen must have a beef with the telephone company. He devised a nifty conundrum for 2002's thriller Phone Booth by trapping Colin Farrell in the titular location with a sniper waiting to kill him if he tried to escape. Meanwhile, he wrote the first version of Cellular (PG-13), about a man trapped on his cell phone during a kidnapping.

Indie flix: Jolted between reality and drama
September Tapes (R) (95 min.) - There's something vaguely unsavory about Christian Johnston's film, despite its strengths. Like The Blair Witch Project, the movie blurs the distinction between fiction and documentary filmmaking. But Johnston toys with a serious subject, the hunt for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, turning it into a Rambo fantasy.

Top 5 movies
1. Garden State - Zach Braff (TV's Scrubs) makes an auspicious debut as writer, director and star of an eccentrically charming film. Natalie Portman and Peter Sarsgaard co-star in a "dramedy" evoking memories of The Graduate.
