A decade of dedication
A steadfast group has stood by the Lightning since 1992, pouring in time, money and enthusiasm despite all the bad times.
Best and worst
BEST MOMENT: Alex Selivanov's overtime goal in Game 3 of the 1996 first-round series against the Flyers that gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 series lead. You can still hear announcer Larry Hirsch yelling, Selivanov! Selivanov! And I'm taking my wife to Vegas!" It was the last great moment this organization has had.

Don't miss these games
It's opening day and we know you're headed for the Ice Palace tonight to check out the new-look Islanders, with Michael Pecca and Alexei Yashin, and the hometown Lightning.
For the fans
TELEVISION: Seventy Lightning games will be shown locally.
Are you ready for some ... hockey?
Canadian Broadcasting Corp.'s Hockey Night in Canada is the Canadian equivalent of Monday Night Football, a buzz-producing event that showcases the best matchup of the week. Hockey doesn't have nearly the following in the United States, but ESPN is betting there are more fans out there than the dismal regular-season ratings reflect.
Leading the charge
Try putting together an all-time team for the Montreal Canadiens. Whom do you put in goal: Ken Dryden? Patrick Roy? Jacques Plante? How about the Boston Bruins. Who gets left out on defense -- Bobby Orr? Ray Bourque? Eddie Shore?
Ranking the NHL
It was difficult for Times staff writer Damian Cristodero to find a reason not to pick the Flyers to win their first Stanley Cup since 1975. Philadelphia has firepower, depth and some youthful legs thanks to the Eric Lindros trade. But it's a long season and teams such as the defending champion Avalanche, Devils, Maple Leafs, Stars, Blues and Red Wings won't go quietly.
