ST. PETERSBURG -- Deborah Lyons has left her job as manager of a youth training program because of "pressures she is facing in her personal life," according to the program's director.

Lyons, the wife of National Baptist Convention USA President Henry J. Lyons, felt the stress of running YouthBuild "would be neither physically nor emotionally healthy for her," according to a memo written by Kim Howe, director of Career Options of Pinellas, Inc.

Career Options oversees the YouthBuild program, in which unemployed youths learn to renovate or build homes for the poor.

Mrs. Lyons -- who is on five years' probation for setting fires in a home owned by her husband and his friend, Bernice Edwards -- has moved into a job determining which applicants are eligible for Career Options training programs, Howe said.
