By AMELIA DAVIS © St. Petersburg Times, published September 26, 1998 Robert Lee, 29, of 924 Beverly Ave., Largo, and an 11-year-old boy had to be cut out of the pickup after the 2 p.m. crash at Druid Road and Duncan Avenue. Lee was traveling south on Duncan when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, police said. His truck smashed into a Ford Mustang headed west on Druid driven by David Richardson, 48, of 2261 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd.. The pickup continued across the intersection and hit a gray Dodge van stopped at the intersectionbeing driven by the Rev. Robert Auffarth, 69, of Newark, Del. Richardson was taken to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and was being evaluated Friday evening. Lee and his 11-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Lee was in serious but stable condition Friday evening. The hospital would not release information about the boy's condition because of his age. Auffarth and his grandson, Matt Auffarth, 14, a passenger in the van, were not seriously injured. "I remember seeing the truck tearing down the street and I thought, "He's never going to stop,' " Auffarth told police. His grandson only remembers his grandfather's scream. After that, "everything was in slow motion," Matt Auffarth said. Charges in the crash are pending.
