ST. PETERSBURG -- The 24-year-old woman said she fell asleep in her bedroom Monday and woke up two hours later in a pool of blood.

Someone beat her and slashed her throat, and police are investigating the incident as an attempted murder. The woman's name is not being published because of the nature of the crime.

Released from Bayfront Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, the woman said she does not know who cut her, nor does she recall what happened early Monday in the 1300 block of 45th Street N.

"I'm carrying a piece of paper and a pen with me at all times in case I remember anything," the woman said.

Officer Lilla Davis-Mays, police spokeswoman, said the woman was home about 1:15 a.m. Monday with her mother's boyfriend. He left, and she went to bed.

The woman said she woke up on the floor across the room and called for help. She said she lost at least a pint of blood and sustained a 3-inch long cut that needed stitches.

She said she did not find the weapon.

"All I can really tell you is I was beaten to a pulp and my throat was slashed," she said, "and I was left for dead."
