UF vs. UK

By Times Staff

© St. Petersburg Times, published September 26, 1998

KENTUCKY (3-0) at No.8 FLORIDA (2-1)

WHEN/WHERE: 3:30 p.m.; Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville.

TV/RADIO: Ch. 10; WHNZ-AM 570, WWJB-AM 1450, WXCV-FM 95.3, WDCF-AM 1350, WZHR-AM 1400. COACHES: UK -- Hal Mumme (8-6, second season); UF -- Steve Spurrier (85-17-1, ninth season; 105-30-2, overall).

WEATHER:

LINE: Florida by 21 1/2.

BACK ON TRACK: The Gators are trying to rebound from a 20-17 overtime loss at Tennessee and extend their school-record home win streak to 24. Only Nebraska's 44-game home win streak is longer.

FLIP AND FLOP: Florida quarterbacks Jesse Palmer and Doug Johnson will share playing time, though Spurrier may rotate them on every possession rather than every play. Palmer is the starter.

HEISMAN HERO: Kentucky QB Tim Couch threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns against the Gators last season, though most of it came in the fourth quarter of a Florida blowout. Kentucky fans celebrated the 55-28 loss as if they had won, something the Gators have not forgotten.

FUMBLE FINGERS: Florida has lost 10 fumbles this year, two more than all of last season, and are last in the country -- that's 112th -- with a minus-10 turnover ratio after three games.
