Lt. Gov. Kenneth "Buddy" MacKay Jr.

Personal: Born March 23, 1933, Ocala, Fla; Presbyterian; Married, 4 children; Ocala High School, Ocala, Fla, 1950; University of Florida, B.S., 1954; University of Florida Law School, LL.B., 1961.

Political History: Democrat; 1968-1974 Florida House of Representatives; 1974-1980 Florida State Senator; 1983-1988 U.S. Representative; 1990 to present Florida Lt. Governor.

Lost to Connie Mack in 1988 in the closest U.S. Senate race in Florida history. Recently lost to Bush by 10 percent of the vote in governor's race on Nov. 3.

He now takes over that Chiles has died. He will hold office until Republican Jeb Bush is sworn in on Jan. 5.
