Hurricane Georges pounds Keys
Hurricane Georges raked the Florida Keys with sheets of rain and 105 mph winds Friday, flipping houseboats and tearing off roofs but sparing Florida the kind of devastation that left at least 300 dead across the Caribbean. No deaths or serious injuries were reported. more Today's Times coverage

Almost 400,000 Tampa Bay residents were ordered to evacuate coastal areas and mobile homes today as Hurricane Georges threatened to bring tropical storm force winds to the area as early as tonight.
