Images of the Florida Century 1906 |

| Here is what we know about this photograph: It was taken in Pass-a-Grille in Pinellas County on Feb. 12. The man sprawled on the sand was named Aaron, or so it says in florid script on the back of the print. Aaron was entrusted with the job of guarding the valuables while the rest of his party went shell-hunting. The day the picture was taken, ferry boat companies were advertising rides from downtown St. Petersburg to Pass-a-Grille an hours journey for 35 cents. (The round-trip fare was four bits.) The Pass-a-Grille Hotel offered the finest shore dinner served anywhere for 75 cents. Maybe Aaron took advantage of that deal. He was dressed for it.
