A manatee dives Monday toward the bottom of the Crystal River, where earlier in the day about 40 manatees gathered. During the winter, manatees congregate in the warmer waters of natural spring-fed rivers, such as Crystal River, as well as near power plants and in deep canals. Scientists estimate Florida's manatee population at 2,400.
